RID YOUR HOME OF RATS & MICE WITH BUGMASTER

Rodents, like mice and rats, are a big problem in any city center. This includes our hometowns of Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton etc. To ensure your home doesn’t get overrun by these varmints, BugMaster offers an inclusive baiting and monitoring system. This system allows us to monitor your bait stations periodically, as opposed to daily when traditional spring trap methods are used. For larger infestations, a combination of spring traps and bait stations may be used. Either method will work on the following rodents:

  • Field Mice
  • House Mice
  • Deer Mice (possible Hanta Virus carriers)
  • Roof Rats
  • Norway Rats
  • Sewer Rats

The Norway rat and roof rat are the two most common rat species in Kelowna’s city centre, while deer mice, field mice, and house mice are prevalent throughout the valley. Deer mice in particular are a serious health concern in the Okanagan — they are known carriers of Hantavirus, which can be transmitted through contact with their droppings or urine. BugMaster’s rodent program goes beyond trapping: we conduct a thorough property inspection to identify all active entry points, apply a combination of bait stations and traps appropriate to the severity of the infestation, and advise on exclusion measures to prevent re-entry. For properties with recurring rodent activity leading to attic or insulation damage, we also offer full infestation recovery services through our Assured Insulation partnership.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rodent Control

Key signs include droppings along walls or in cupboards, gnaw marks on food packaging, wiring, or structural materials, scratching or scurrying sounds in walls or the attic at night, and nesting material such as shredded insulation or paper in hidden areas.

Yes. Deer mice are the primary reservoir of Hantavirus in BC, and the Okanagan has historically had one of the higher rates of exposure in Canada. Disturbing deer mouse droppings in a confined space can be hazardous. BugMaster technicians handle removal using appropriate safety procedures.

BugMaster’s baiting and monitoring system uses enclosed bait stations that can be checked periodically, reducing the need for daily visits compared to traditional spring traps. For larger infestations, we use a combination of both methods for faster control.
Rats can enter through gaps as small as a loonie (25mm), and mice through openings the size of a dime. Common entry points include gaps around pipes and conduit, under doors, through roofline gaps, and unsealed vents. We identify and advise on sealing these during our assessment.
